When Kyrie Irving assisted his father in keeping the breathtaking Malibu property with an ocean view, his dream became a reality

Geraldine Gilliland, a chef and cookbook author, has sold her Malibu mountain home for $18 million over a year ago and has now formally given the keys to the new owner. Public documents indicate that Drederick Irving, the father of Brooklyn Nets superstar Kyrie Irving and a former collegiate and professional basketball player, paid $10.7 million for the property, which is around $7.4 million less than the initial asking price.

After being bought out by Gilliland—who owns Lula Cocina Mexicana in Santa Monica—and has since expanded her land holdings, the 40-acre property, called “Rancho Chiquita,” has served as a location for weddings and parties, a set for “The Voice,” and a dog rescue organization. Situated on a 225-acre parcel with beach and mountain vistas, the gated compound now features a main house in the hacienda style as well as a detached residence.

Over 6,700 square feet of living area spread across two stories of the main house with a stucco and terracotta roof. Wood-beam ceilings, parquet floors and Saltillo tiles, arched doors, and clerestory windows adorn every room. A gourmet kitchen with granite countertops, an eat-in island with built-in wine storage, high-end stainless appliances, a walk-in pantry, and a breakfast nook are highlights of the main floor, which also features a formal dining room with its own fireplace and a living room with a fireplace.

Private master suites with ocean views, fireplaces, patios, cedar-lined walk-in closets, sitting areas by the fire, lofts, and luxurious bathrooms with access to spa terraces are located in one wing of the house, while two bedrooms on the main floor with outdoor palapa access and a lower-level staff/guest suite with two bedrooms, an office, living room, and kitchen are in the other.

On the outside, the grand grounds provide an infinity pool and spa, a kitchen and bar, and various spots perfect for outdoor dining and drinks, including a grassy space that can host 250 people. Apart from the three-car garage and parking for a minimum of twenty vehicles, there is also a separate gated service entrance that leads to a spacious motor court and a place to stage events.
