Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana will miss Cameroon’s World Cup qualifier against Libya on Tuesday due to injury, according to the Cameroonian Football Federation.

The goalkeeper, who joined United from Inter Milan in the summer, was forced off late in Friday’s 3-0 victory over Mauritius. He was replaced by Fabrice Ondoa after 81 minutes due to an undisclosed injury.

Though Cameroon manager Rigobert Song was unable to provide an injury diagnosis during Friday’s encounter, the ailment has been deemed serious enough to keep him out of the forthcoming match against Libya at the Martyrs of Benina Stadium.

The Cameroonian Football Federation said in a translated statement: “The Cameroonian Football Federation informs public opinion that the player Andre Onana, injured during the match against Mauritius on November 17, 2023 in Douala, is not part of the Indomitable Lions delegation currently in Benghazi.”

Though the 27-year-old will miss the game against Libya, it is unclear whether he will be eligible for United’s match against Everton next Sunday. After the international break, United will start their Premier League season with a relatively short journey to Goodison Park.

If the Cameroonian is ruled out, it is almost inevitable that fellow summer addition Altay Bayindir will make his debut. The 25-year-old, who joined United from Fenerbahce, started Turkey’s 3-2 international friendly win over Germany on Saturday evening.

Turkey returns to action in midweek, taking on Wales at Cardiff City Stadium on Tuesday evening in their penultimate qualifier for next summer’s European Championship in Germany. Turkey has already qualified for the competition.
