Japanese pitching sensation Yoshinobu Yamamoto being posted for MLB free agency

On Tuesday, Yoshinobu Yamamoto will be available for signing by major league teams as a free agent until January 4 at 5 p.m. ET.

Nippon Professional Baseball informed Major League Baseball that the Orix Buffaloes, the club of the 25-year-old right-hander, was placing him on the available list for MLB clubs.

The 30 teams were informed of the posting by the league on Monday. The bargaining session, as per the agreement between MLB and NPB, begins at 8 a.m. Tuesday and can last up to 45 days.

With 169 strikeouts and 28 walks in 164 innings pitched, Yamamoto had an earned run average of 1.21 and a record of 16-6 this season. Over seven seasons with Orix, he had a record of 70-29 with an ERA of 1.82.

In his complete game victory over Hanshin in Game 6 on November 5th, he threw 138 pitches and set a Japan Series record with 14 strikeouts. After that, Orix lost Game 7.

On September 9th, while playing for the Buffaloes, Yamamoto struck out the Lotte Marines for the 100th no-hitter in Japanese major league history. It was his second no-hitter of the career. His scoreless streak reached 42 innings during the game, which was watched by MLB executives including Brian Cashman, general manager of the New York Yankees.

After Rōki Sasaki, a 21-year-old sensation, threw a strong pitch, Yamamoto allowed two runs and three hits in 3 1/3 innings while striking out four and walking two. This allowed Alex Verdugo to score an RBI double. When Atsuki Yuasa gave up an RBI single to Isaac Paredes, Yamamoto was struck with a second run.

As part of the deal between MLB and NPB, the posting fee will be 20% of the first $25 million US in a major league contract, which includes options and earned bonuses. After $25 million, the proportion falls to 17.5%, and for amounts over $50 million, it reduces to 15%.

In addition, 15% of all bonuses, salary escalators, and executed options would be subject to a fee.

White Sox and Dodgers seasons were disappointing for Lynn.

According to a source familiar with the matter, the St. Louis Cardinals started retooling their starting rotation on Monday by signing right-hand pitcher Lance Lynn to a one-year contract. This returns Lynn to the team that drafted him, as reported by The Associated Press.

His option, worth $18 million, was declined earlier this month by the Dodgers.

A disastrоus year fоr Lynn, whо was dealt frоm the White Sоx at the deadline but cоuldn’t find his fооting in Lоs Angeles, was summed up by his perfоrmance in the NLDS. Including the hоme runs he let up in the playоffs, his 44 tоtal hоme runs allоwed оver the twо teams ranks sixth all-time in Majоr League Baseball.

The season was Lynn’s poorest in major league baseball, with a 5.73 ERA and a record of 13-11.

The Cardinals were anticipated to make a strong free agency push for starting pitchers after finishing 71-91, their lowest record since 1990.

Last year, their rotation had the fifth-worst ERA in the majors at 5.08, and right-hander Miles Mikolas and left-hander Steven Matz are the only guaranteed starts for the upcoming season.
