Friday, July 12, 2013, in Atlanta, sees Brandon Phillips of the Cincinnati Reds connect with a two-run base hit in the first inning of a baseball game against the Atlanta Braves.
The Baseball Writers’ Association of America Hall of Fame ballot for this year includes a number of newcomers, including former Reds second baseman Brandon Phillips, Adrian Beltre, Chase Utley, and others.
After being selected in the 1999 Montreal Expos draft, Phillips joined Cleveland in September 2002 and made his main league debut. In the end, he was traded to the Reds in 2006, where he played for over ten years.
Phillips hit.279 with 191 home runs, 851 RBI, and 194 stolen bases during his time with Cincinnati. The three-time All-Star won one Silver Slugger Award and four Gold Gloves.
After being traded to the Atlanta Braves in 2017, Phillips participated in 120 games for them. Before his major league career ended, he was a member of both the Red Sox and the Angels.
After leading the National League in putouts twice, fielding % three times, and assists three times, Phillips is ranked 23rd all-time among second basemen. In MLB history, there are just six second basemen that have at least 200 home runs and 200 stolen bases. He is one of them.
Jose Bautista, Bartolo Colon, Matt Holliday, Joe Mauer, Jose Reyes, and David Wright are among recent arrivals. Todd Helton, who was voted on on 72.2% of ballots in 2023, along with Gary Sheffield, Andruw Jones, and Billy Wagner are among the players who will be back on the ballot.
The results of the 2024 Hall of Fame poll will be revealed by the BBWA on the MLB Network on January 23 at 6:00 p.m. On Sunday, July 21, during Hall of Fame Weekend, the electees will be inducted.
