Noelvi Marte entered the Dominican Winter League with a 16-game hitting streak.
He simply doesn’t stop punching. Noelvi Marte had a great start in the Dominican Winter League before making his major league debut with the Cincinnati Reds in the final stages of the 2023 campaign.
Tuesday night, Marte, who is playing for the Gigantes del Cibao in the DOWL, went 3-for-4 with a double, two singles, an RBI, and a run scored to help lead his team to a 5-0 victory over Licey.
Marte, who only appeared in 35 games for Cincinnati the previous season, seems to be a keeper for the Reds. When the Reds’ 2024 season gets underway in late March, Marte is the clear choice to start at third base.
Reds infielder Noelvi Marte just keeps hitting in Winter League debut
It’s interesting to note that on Tuesday, Noelvi Marte, making his debut in the Dominican Winter League, started at shortstop. Although it appears unlikely, Reds supporters could see the 22-year-old divide time between the hot corner and his native position in 2024.
Marte’s bat will get him regular playing time in the Cincinnati Reds lineup regardless of where he lines up defensively. Marte finished his debut season in the majors with a 16-game hitting streak, and he will still be eligible to play as a rookie in the coming season.Supporters will recall that Marte was acquired by Cincinnati through a trade with the Mariners in Seattle. Marte was a part of the trade transaction that allowed the Mariners to acquire right-handed pitcher Luis Castillo, along with fellow infielder Edwin Arroyo. That exchange appears to be beneficial to both companies right now.
In his first 114 at-bats, Noelvi Marte hit.316/.366/.456. Marte might be a mainstay in the Reds starting lineup going into the upcoming campaign as the team attempts to build on its success from the previous one.
