Garnacho Executes Spectacular Overhead Kick, Neville Makes Bold Comparison to Rooney and Ronaldo, Drawing Parallels with His Idol

AWESTRUCK Alejandro Garnacho’s overhead wonder goal was praised by his Manchester United teammates as “better than Rooney’s”; the winger himself likened it to a Cristiano Ronaldo goal.

Garnacho shared a split photo of his spectacular first goal in Sunday’s 3-0 victory over Everton, coupled with a well-known identical strike by his idol, Cristiano Ronaldo, from 2018.

The Argentinean’s attempt was immediately hailed by Red Devils star Gary Neville as the greatest overhead goal he had ever seen, even better than Wayne Rooney’s winning goal for United against Manchester City in 2011.

Garnacho, 19, exclaimed, “I couldn’t believe I scored it, to be honest,” as he celebrated with a Siu goal salute a la Ronaldo.

“I simply listened to the audience and said, ‘Oh my God,’ not realizing how I had scored. Easily one of my best goals ever, I’m overjoyed.

Later, he posted a picture of the goal on X with the phrase “Boom” and utilized Instagram to post a double image of his and former United star Ronaldo’s goals.

Five years ago, Ron’s goal helped Real Madrid defeat Juventus in the quarterfinals en route to winning the Champions League.

In response to Garnacho’s account, United manager Erik ten Hag said, “It was probably the goal of the season—a magnificent moment.”

Even more, right-back Diogo Dalot asked the young man if he may accompany him to the World Goal of the Year Awards.

Dalot wrote on Facebook: “Take me with you to that Puskas Gala please… unbelievable Hermano!”

As he recovers from an injury, Lisandro Martinez, a center defender for the Red Devils, wrote, “Well done Hermano, proud of you.”

“I don’t think I’ve ever been in a stadium where I’ve seen an overhead kick that good,” exclaimed Sky Sports pundit Neville in the meantime.

“And I was there for Rooney’s against Man City.”

Garnacho’s conclusion was dubbed “the coldest moment of the season” by fans on social media.

Additional judgments were “magical finish,” “sensational,” and “absolutely incredible.”

Some observers believe Garnacho has learned a lot from former United striker Ronaldo, as evidenced by his successful season.

“That’s Ron’s influence,” one person asserted, while another said, “Following in his idol’s footsteps.”

“This will last long in men’s hearts, just like Ronaldo’s goals,” proposed a third.

Even the always sardonic Roy Keane was unable to contain himself.

“It’s very difficult to talk about because I’ve never done it myself,” he remarked.

“Normally, I’m harsh on goalies, but after this one, I’ll give him a pass because it was a fantastic goal and United had a great start. Excellent objective.

With goals from Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford as well, the thrilling finale put United ahead.

Ten Hag, meanwhile, cautioned against comparing Garnacho’s performance to Ronaldo’s too quickly.

Don’t compare, said the Dutchman. Garnacho needs to work extremely hard if he wants to go that way.

“You have to do it consistently, and he hasn’t done that yet. You need to score 20–25 goals a season to want to be a Rooney or Ronaldo.
