LeBron James gave his Lakers teammates and staff a tour of Akron to demonstrate to them how our Foundation is redefining community.
LeBron James, an NBA player, believes Akron’s new museum is something “we can all be proud of.”Hundreds of people gathered to Akron’s House Three Thirty to learn about the remarkable career of the NBA’s all-time leading scorer as the Lakers prepared to play the Cavaliers. The LeBron James’ Home Court museum opened to the public on Saturday morning. It is housed in the former Tangier restaurant and was restored by the Akron Kid’s charity.James, who rose to national prominence as a junior at St. Vincent-St. Mary High School, is just three minutes away from the arena. The Cavaliers’ home arena in downtown Cleveland, where James first established an unbreakable bond with the team throughout his 21-season career and again after his return from Miami, is roughly 44 minutes away.
During a press conference following Saturday night’s Lakers victory against the Cavaliers, 121-115, which might have been one of James’s final homecoming games, the 38-year-old superstar reflected on the museum’s introduction.James thanked the Cavaliers (8-8) for the chance to help his community and foundation after leading the Lakers to a 10-7 victory with a career-high 22 points, six rebounds, and six assists. The regular entry ticket price to the museum is $23, in honor of James’ jersey number. The employment training program of House Three Thirty will employ people connected to the I Promise School, such as kids, parents, teachers, and other family members, and will get all sales earnings. The LeBron James Family Foundation and the Akron Public Schools have partnered to manage the school. It’s “pretty cool,” James said, that he has been able to use his life’s experiences to give back to his community and make it a place that people are glad to call home. Well, I am. It is with good reason that I am proud of what my foundation has achieved. The museum is undoubtedly one of the many things my hometown is proud of.
