On May 9th, he was placed on the injured list due to what was described as a stress reaction in his left elbow. He had Tommy John surgery two months later. Typically, in such circumstances, the athlete signs a two-year contract; however, Sanmartin’s deal’s duration is unknown. How Alex Blandino has emerged as a standout at Reds spring training - The AthleticThe Reds selected Stanford product Alex Blandino in the first round of the 2014 draft. He made his major league debut four years later, and he played in the major leagues for portions of 2018, 2019, and 2021 with the squad. Blandino has thrown a fastball that reaches 91 mph in addition to his well-known knuckleball. Blandino signed as an infielder, but it’s entertaining to imagine him taking the mound and hitting fastballs up to 90 mph and knuckleballs up to 70 mph in blowouts.
