Despite being relatively ιnjury prone, Anthony Davis has maintained a laser-like focus on the game throughout his 12-year NBA career, solidifying his reputation as one of the league’s most sober players. As a result, the accusation of being a “big flopper” is met with astonishment and, in the case of Joel Embiid’s teammates, with more than one raised eyebrow.
A few hours prior to the Lakers’ game against the Sixers, Embiid’s replacement, Paul Reed, used a question posed by ESPN reporter Austin Krell to make sure that Davis “is a big flopper.”
To take it a notch further, Reed said, “that I don’t get in foul trouble early.” To rub salt in the wоund, Reed went on to sаy, “Can’t be too аggressive with him.”
Davis “is gonna be flailing,” says the 76ers’ replacement big man. Therefore, I must avoid getting in foul trouble for Monday’s game at the Wells Fargo Center.
It was quick for Reed to get his responses.
Given that he is Joel Embiid’s teammate and replacement, many view Embiid as the largest huge loser in the NBA right now, and for that reason, some fans and pundits questioned Reed’s claims.
You could see the results right away. This season, Embiid has appeared in 15 games and attempted 176 free throws, enough for about 11.7 attempts per game while averaging 34.7 minutes of playing time per game.
With an average of 5.9 free throws per game, it’s significantly higher than Davis. Embiid’s average of 6.1 is nearly identical to that of Davis and his colleague LeBron James put together.
As far as field goals go in the NBA, Joel has more than Davis, who is a distant 24th—a “big flopper,” in Reed’s words.
Conversely, Reed averages 2.0 fouls per game in his 13.4 minutes of playing time as a substitute.
The 76ers center probably won’t have anything to worry about in their matchup against the Lakers, even though some experts think he gets an unfair whistle every once in a while.
