Cole Palmer displays superb performance, but Mykhailo Mudryk’s profligacy costs Blues in defeat at Man Utd

Manchester United climbed to sixth place in the Premier League standings after securing a victory over Chelsea at Old Trafford. Scott McTominay played a pivotal role, scoring both goals for United in a remarkable turnaround from their defeat against Newcastle over the weekend.

Although Cole Palmer equalized for Chelsea, they couldn’t salvage anything from the game, leaving them in 10th place on the table. United is set to face Bournemouth in their next fixture, while Chelsea will take on Everton.

In a chaotic encounter at Old Trafford on Wednesday evening, Scott McTominay’s brace propelled Manchester United to a 2-1 triumph over Chelsea. McTominay’s goals came from a rebound in the first half and a powerful header at the back post in the second, earning his team a crucial three points. Despite missing other clear opportunities and facing a brilliant double save in the first half, McTominay showcased his goal-scoring prowess.

The match was marked by numerous missed opportunities in a strangely uncontrolled setting, with both teams leaving ample space for their opponents in the final third. Early in the game, Bruno Fernandes had a penalty saved by Robert Sanchez after VAR adjudged Antony to have been fouled in the box by Enzo Fernandez.

Despite registering 28 attempts, United struggled to convert their chances, with only nine shots on target throughout the 90 minutes. Chelsea managed to equalize just before halftime, thanks to a superb finish by Cole Palmer following an intricate run along the edge of the box. However, Chelsea had their own missed opportunities, with Nicolas Jackson and Mykhaylo Mudryk particularly wasteful.
