Messi recently acknowledged that he thought about accepting the opportunity to transfer to Saudi Arabia before deciding to sign with Inter Miami in the Major League Soccer (MLS) in July. After spending a few months in the United States, the 36-year-old seems content, but Emenalo claims the Pro League would be delighted to sign him.
“I am not aware of the reasons why he ended up in Major League Soccer,” Emenalo was cited by The Guardian. “We will be pleased to have him visit us if he decides to come here next season. We will be ecstatic for him if he chooses to remain in MLS.”
The former technical director of Chelsea continued, “The Saudi Pro League is open for business to any superstar that wants to come,” in reference to another possibly busy window in January. We will make every effort to sign any superstars you and I know who express interest in joining this league should there be a sign that a spot becomes available.
Messi and old adversary Cristiano Ronaldo, who is aiming to lead Al-Nassr to the league crown this season, might team up if Messi relocates to the Middle East. The Argentine star would also join players like former Real Madrid hero Karim Benzema, who is currently with Al-Ittihad, and ex-Barcelona teammate Neymar, who is currently at Al-Hilal.
Messi will, however, be spending more time at Inter Miami with his former co-star Luis Suarez than traveling to Saudi Arabia anytime soon. The World Cup winner hopes to lead his team to the 2024 MLS play-offs after missing out on the playoffs in 2023.
