What does Gustavo Zermeño Jr., a famous street artist from Los Angeles, do with the paint that is left over at the end of each year?
When that happens at the same time as the Los Angeles Dodgers sign the most famous athlete in recent history, it will meаn that the north wall of Oceanview Liquor in Hermosa Beach will be adorned with Shohei Ohtani’s enormous likeness.
The Los Angeles Angels’ Ohtani, who was named AL MVP twice, inked a seven-figure deal with the Los Angeles Dodgers not long ago. The two-way state will serve as a lynchpin for the Dodgers for the next decade, thanks to the 10-year contract.
Zermeño is honoring the latest star of the Dodgers, Shohei Ohtani, with a mural that features Mookie Betts, the team’s MVP, as well as Dustin Brown and Drew Doughty, two hockey stars from the Los Angeles Kings. It is uncertain how much the rain will hinder his progress, but he stated his intention to complete the mural by week’s end.
Norm Kalosh, the owner of Oceanview Liquor, was approached by Zermeño regarding the possibility of a free mural being painted on his shop.
Since Zermeño was a fan of the hockey club, the concept of an all-Kings wall came to him initially. However, when Ohtani signed with the Dodgers, his plans changed.
“When I realized I needed to change things up and make him the main attraction of the entire project,” Zermeño stated on Tuesday, Dec. 19, while depicting the project against the looming dаnger of rain.
Because Zermeño enjoys giving back to the community he’s a part of, he gave his free skills for the Ohtani artwork, even though he’s a successful artist.
“I have always aspired to give back to the community,” Zermeño stated. The cost of advertising space in Los Angeles is high, to add insult to ιnjury. Thus, I am receiving walls at no cost.
Everyone wins when walls are free and service is free. Zermeño chimed in.
“I share my artwork with the world,” Zermeño stated, “and often I am free to do as I please, even when brands or money are involved.”
The talents of Zermeño have been utilized to honor the lives of Los Angeles sports and entertainment figures who passed away at an early age, including Nipsey Hustle, Selena Quintanilla, and Mac Miller.
Even after their deaths in a helicopter crаsh over four years ago, Kobe and Gianna Bryant continued to be the subjects of his art.
This Venice native’s work evokes a sense of Los Angeles with its use of palm palms, beaches, and sunsets. Other locations that have appeared in his artwork include Dodger Stadium and Venice, his hometown.
Zermeño also painted Mickey Mance, the creator of Mickey’s Deli in Hermosa Beach, sitting between Marlon Brando and Frank Sinatra, and his work is on display in the South Bay at that eatery. Additionally, Beach Cities Optometry in Manhattan Beach is where the artist created the mural depicting the Kings.
Zermeño mentioned that visiting various towns in Los Angeles County is one of the most enjoyable aspects of his job.
