‘Went from hanging banners to square 1 again’: NBA fans mock the Lakers for putting Dejounte Murray in the spotlight during the team’s dip after IST

This season, the Los Angeles Lakers have become a hotspot for trades. Chicago Bulls and Toronto Raptors were earlier rumored partners of the franchise.

Nevertheless, according to reports, the Lakers are aiming to acquire Dejounte Murray from the Atlanta Hawks due to their current situation. The NBA fans were not pleased by this.

Fans took to X (previously Twitter) to mock the Lakers after Shams Charania of The Athletic broke the news of the potential deal on ClutchPoints.

One commenter wasted no time mocking the Lakers by bringing up their championship-winning team in response to the post.

“Went from hаnging banners to square 1 again lol,” the user commented thereafter.

Still another contributor stated,

The Lakers seem to be involved in every move involving a deadline. During the summer, I believed the roster for this year had been finalized.

A few comments from X admirers are as follows:

After the NBA In-Season Tournament, the Lakers found themselves in an even more precarious situation. You might sаy they were the best offseason acquisition before the season even began. But they have hardly made a dent in their assets.

Even though the Lakers have a fantastic roster, they aren’t very good defensively or from beyond the arc. With a solution to one of these two issues, they may be able to make it through the season.

All eyes in the NBA have been on the Los Angeles Lakers this season due to trade rumors. The team’s attention has turned to the Atlanta Hawks, following earlier displays of interest in a trade involving the Chicago Bulls. Shams Charania of The Athletic reports that the Lakers are considering Dejounte Murray as a possible trade target.

Due of the trade-related costs associated with acquiring Murray, the Lakers may be interested in making the move. When it comes to money, he’s the better choice.

Starting with the 2024–25 season, Murray will receive $25 million as part of his four-year deal, which begins next season. His average annual salary will be $30 million. Therefore, he generates more revenue for the Los Angeles Lakers than Zach LaVine. Due to his contract, LaVine is scheduled to earn $43 million next year, which is too much for the Lakers to afford.

The issue with trading for Murray, though, is the return the Hawks would demand. If Trae Young isn’t available, Murray can step in and score while keeping the ball out of the basket. Even if the Hawks were to give up, trading Austin Reaves would likely be the last thing on their minds.
