Chelsea is reportedly in talks to sign 17-year-old defender David Odogu from Wolfsburg, according to the British press. Odogu, who was part of the Germany U17 team that won the U17 World Cup last December, is highly regarded for his physicality and aggressive playing style, drawing comparisons to midfielder Antonio Rudiger.
Leicester City, the current leaders of the English Championship, is also interested in the young talent who has yet to make an appearance for Wolfsburg’s first team. Odogu has represented the U17 team 34 times and the Wolfsburg U19 team 15 times.
It is reported that Odogu is keen to move to England to pursue his football career. Chelsea is in the early stages of negotiations and is optimistic about securing the player’s services.
However, before focusing on strengthening the squad, Chelsea needs to sell some players in January to balance their budget. One of their youth academy products, defender Ian Maatsen, is attracting interest from Dortmund.
Mauricio Pochettino, the coach, is said to have the authority to participate in Chelsea’s transfer matters, rather than solely following the directives of the team’s leadership.
