Although Lionel Messi has relished his infrequent vacation from playing competitive football, the Argentine star is returning to Inter Miami.
The eight-time Ballon d’Or winner left Paris Saint-Germain as a free agent and relocated to the United States in the summer of 2023. Within weeks of his arrival, he led his new team to League Cup glory, but an unlucky injury prevented Inter Miami from qualifying for the MLS playoffs.
After his domestic campaign concluded, Messi had international action with Argentina to attend to, but his final appearance for the 2022 World Cup winners took place on November 21 at the Maracana against Brazil. After spending the holiday and New Year’s in his native country, he is currently traveling north to Florida.
TyC Sports reports that Messi and his family left Argentina for Fort Lauderdale on Saturday night at approximately 11 p.m. Now, they will be returning to their opulent waterfront property, which they bought not long after coming to the United States.
Messi won’t play again until January 19, which is about two months after his previous match, against El Salvador in a friendly match at Inter Miami. The Herons’ itinerary also includes matches against FC Dallas, Newell’s Old Boys, Vissel Kobe, and a Hong Kong Select XI. At the Riyadh Cup, Al-Hilal will take on Cristiano Ronaldo’s Al-Nassr.
