‘Not the Celtics fans crying about a ref’: Under Williams, Celtics fans’ claims that the Pacers’ winning streak was aided by officials backfire

On Monday, the Boston Celtics lost 131-133 against the Indiana Pacers at Gainbridge Fieldhouse Arena, and the fans weren’t happy about the refereeing because of a contentious call. Despite video evidence indicating differently, referee James Williams made an outrageous call as Jaylen Brown was smack dab in the center of it. After Pacers point guard Buddy Hield elbowed Brown in the head with 3.2 seconds remaining in the game, Brown was scheduled to be at the charity stripe. Even though Brown scored 40 points, they were for naught because Indiana narrowly defeated its conference opponents in a nail-biter. The ruling was reversed, though.

The Celtics’ fan base was just as outraged as Brown when they learned that Williams had gone to college and high school in Indiana and that the Pacers went 35-3 under his watch as an official.

Referee Eric Lewis, who retired after a contentious season due to an investigation into allegations that he and other officials used a burner account to protect themselves, was the one the Pacers were referring to. The NBA ended its inquiry into his social media behavior after he announced his retirement. Some fan bases allegedly said he was biased against the Celtics.

Even though the Celtics’ fan base was on edge in the arena, the referee’s call held up. With 21 points and Kristaps Porzingis adding 19, Jrue Holiday was Jaylen Brown’s assistant. Pacers forward Aaron Nesmith scored 17 points and star guard Benedict Mathurin scored 26.

“Buddy Hield admitted to fouling Jaylen Brown,” said Joe Mazzulla, head coach of the Boston Celtics.

Joe Mazzulla, head coach of the Boston Celtics, was eagerly awaiting the NBA’s final two-minute report because he knew it would reveаl the trutҺ. In an interview with the media following the game, he said that Hield had confessed to fouling Brown and expressed his anticipation of the report’s findings.

Tomorrow at 4 o’clock, we will observe the outcome. I am eagerly anticipating four o’clock. The Last Two Minute Report is something I’m really looking forward to since Buddy Hield informed me he fouled him,” Mazzulla stated (via Sports Illustrated).

Following the review, Indiana regained possession. With just under a minute remaining, Porzingis fouled Mathurin as he attempted a three-point shot. The second player Һit two of his three field goal attempts, extending Indiana’s lead to two points, and Boston was unable to tie the game in the dying seconds.

On Wednesday, January 10th, at 7 pm ET, the Boston Celtics will visit the Minnesota Timberwolves, the best team in the Western Conference, in an effort to put the controversial game in the past. Jaylen Brown and the team will be in the lineup.
