Jayson Tatum says, ‘Didn’t want to lose at home yet’ as he recalls considering making the home winning streak 18-0 in an overtime victory

With Wednesday’s 127-120 overtime triumph over the Minnesota Timberwolves, Jayson Tatum and the Boston Celtics sped to their 18th consecutive home victory of the season. It was the first time in club history that they were sitting pretty at 18-0 at home.

The four-time NBA All-Star was instrumental in the win, contributing 42 minutes of play with a career-best 45 points, four boards, and two assists. He added to their lead by draining a game-winning 3-pointer in overtime.

In the victory over the top-ranked Timberwolves in the Western Conference, Jaylen Brown contributed 35 points and 11 boards.

After the win, Celtics insider Marc D’Amico posted a remark from Jayson Tatum on X (previously Twitter) about wanting to remain unbeaten at home if at all possible.

A superstar for the Celtics, the 25-year-old said:

Such moments are your lifeblood, and you’ll stop at nothing to ensure your team’s victory. Somewhere deep inside, I didn’t want to lose at home just yet, did I? We have not lost a single game.

The Celtics bounced back from a devastating loss to the Indiana Pacers with a win over the Timberwolves, which not only gave them their 18th home victory of the season.

Thursday, the Bruins will travel to Milwaukee to take on the Bucks.

In 2023–24, Jayson Tatum’s statistics at TD Garden during an 18–0 run

Superstar forward Jayson Tatum is having a ball with some remarkable statistics to show for while the Boston Celtics roll at TD Garden in the present NBA season.

The 45 points that “JT” scored against the Minnesota Timberwolves brought his home court scoring average up to 27.8 points.

In 35.8 minutes played in 17 home games, the former Duke player has also racked up 8.5 assists and 8.0 rebounds.

Jayson Tatum set a new home season record with 45 points against Minnesota, surpassing his previous best of 35 points against the New York Knicks on November 13th, a game in which they prevailed, 114-108.

He leads the squad in scoring (27.5 ppg) and rebounding (8.7 rpg) thus far this season. Every game, he also hands out 4.5 dimes.

Thanks to Jayson Tatum, the Boston Celtics have the best record in the league at 29-8 and are preparing for another postseason run. This time around, they want to go even further than they did last year, when they were one win away from re-entering the NBA Finals.

Which NBA team’s home record is the best all-time?

With a home record of 40-1, held by the 2015–16 San Antonio Spurs and the 1985–86 Celtics, the Boston Celtics have a real shot at becoming the best team in NBA history if they can keep winning until the very end.

The Spurs, coached by NBA legend Tim Duncan, were the final squad to accomplish the feat. Before losing to the Warriors in the season’s final stretch, they went on a 39-game winning streak.

Sadly, San Antonio was eliminated in the conference semi-finals by the Memphis Grizzlies, so it did not translate to postseason success.

Meanwhile, the record was set by the Larry Bird–led Celtics, who went 67–15. Their only loss was to the Trail Blazers of Portland. But that season came to a close with a championship victory over the Houston Rockets in the NBA.
