Max Christie says it ‘felt good’ to close game for Lakers, earn win

Not long ago, nobody could have predicted that Max Christie would even step foot on the floor.

At one point in mid-December, he went without a game for four games in a row. In other occasions, he was either benched during garbage time or saw limited action because a starter was injured.

Christie, on the other hand, has been a mainstay in the Lakers’ rotation for the previous five games and is beginning to resemble the kind of guard the team is sorely lacking.

During this time, he has played 21.8 minutes per game and averaged 7.2 points and 4.4 rebounds. His defensive performance has been outstanding; he has committed only six turnovers while running the offense and has completed all of his duties.

After Cam Reddish went down with an ιnjury in Tuesday’s game against the Raptors, the Lakers decided to include Christie in the final lineups. The game was still close.

He grabbed a rebound and split two free shots to cap off a solid performance. The team’s victory was due in large part to Anthony Davis, although Christie also had a hand in the victory by making key plays.

After the game, Christie talked about the pressure of playing with the game hаnging in the balance.

Christie expressed how fantastic that felt. “That situation hasn’t happened to me in quite some time…I hadn’t been in a close game like this one in a long time, though. Feeling that rush of adrenaline was a pleasant experience. On offense, I grabbed a huge rebound and converted one of two free throws. Being present when it counted the most felt great. Being outside for a change was refreshing. Obviously, I had a great time and won the game because I felt the intensity and leaned into it.

No matter who is or isn’t available, Christie will be in the rotation if he keeps performing. He is playing at a level that belies his age of twenty. His continued role as a valuable contributor to the Los Angeles roster, both this season and in the future, depends on his ability to learn from his veterans and earn playing time in important games.
