At the age of 20, Victor Wembanyama surpasses LeBron James by recording his first triple-double

Early in his NBA career, San Antonio Spurs rookie sensation Victor Wembanyama achieved a significant milestone when he recorded his first-ever triple-double on Wednesday against the Detroit Pistons.

.

In the Spurs’ 130-108 victory over the Pistons on the road, “Wemby” was dependable, finishing with 16 points, 12 rebounds, and 10 assists in just 21 minutes.

Wembanyama earned the triple-double at the age of 20 years and 6 days, which put him just ahead of LeBron James, another star from a different generation, who did the same in his debut season with the Cleveland Cavaliers at the age of 20 years and 20 days.

On January 19, 2005, during a game against the Portland Trail Blazers, James recorded his first triple-double. The game ended with them winning 107-101, and he finished with 27 points, 11 rebounds, and 10 assists.

With 109 career triple-doubles, “The King,” who is presently fifth on the all-time NBA triple-double list, began a run of big performances after that one.

With his touchdown, Victor Wembanyama not only gave the Spurs their sixth win in 36 games this season, but also ended their five-game losing streak.

The Spurs’ first-round pick from this year’s rookie lottery is still a reliable player despite their severe season-long troubles. In 29.2 minutes, he averages 19.3 points, 10.1 rebounds, 3.3 blocks, and 1.2 steals.

Victor Wembanyama shattering the record of another NBA star

Victor Wembanyama not only tied LeBron James’ record for the most maiden triple-doubles, but he also defeated Andre Iguodala, the previous MVP of the NBA Finals, in becoming the youngest player to record a triple-double without committing a turnover.

Iguodala played 42 minutes in the Philadelphia 76ers’ game against the Detroit Pistons on March 23, 2005, while he was still a player for the team. He finished with 10 points, 10 rebounds, 10 assists, and zero turnovers. At the age of 21, 54 days, he accomplished it.

Wembanyama (16-12-10 and zero TOs) scored his first basket in Wednesday’s 130-108 victory over the Pistons at the age of 20 years and six days.

With just over eight minutes remaining in the game, he delivered a pass to seasoned player Doug McDermott for a triple, capping off just 21 minutes of play. It was his tenth helper of the match.

Victor Wembanyama, who was highly anticipated coming into the season, has been proving to be the Spurs’ pillar.

With a ceiling that many believe is still very high, the French big man has averaged 19.3 points, 10.1 rebounds, 3.3 blocks, and 1.2 steals in 29.2 minutes thus far.

Although his play hasn’t yet resulted in much success for the Spurs (6-30), who are rebuilding, there’s every reason to think that things will eventually start to improve.

The Spurs will host the Charlotte Hornets at home on Friday.
