Cristiano Ronaldo Criticizes Ballon d’Or and FIFA The Best Awards, Shines at Globe Soccer Gala

In a bold statement, Cristiano Ronaldo expressed his skepticism about the credibility of prestigious football awards such as the Ballon d’Or and FIFA The Best. The legendary footballer, known for his numerous accolades, including wins at the Globe Soccer Awards, voiced his concerns about the diminishing reputation of these honors.

Ronaldo emphasized that his remarks were not a dismissal of the talents of players like Lionel Messi, Erling Haaland, or Kylian Mbappe, nor a result of personal victories at the Globe Soccer Awards. Instead, he pointed out his dwindling trust in the Ballon d’Or and The Best awards, suggesting that statistical achievements should play a more significant role in determining winners.

The 38-year-old veteran highlighted his outstanding performance with Al Nassr, citing his impressive tally of 54 goals as irrefutable evidence of his success. Ronaldo, known for his straightforward approach, argued that statistics never lie and should be considered comprehensively throughout the entire season. The controversy surrounding the 2023 awards season escalated when Lionel Messi claimed both the Ballon d’Or and The Best awards, even after leaving European football. The latter, given Messi’s exclusion from World Cup 2022 considerations, sparked more debates.

Despite the contentious nature of the awards, Messi secured the overall victory, tying in points with Erling Haaland but ranking higher due to receiving more captaincy votes for the national team. Messi’s absence at the awards ceremony and his lack of celebratory posts on social media hinted at his recognition of the anomalies. In his voting ballot, Messi notably placed Haaland as his top choice.

At the Globe Soccer Gala in Dubai, Haaland received the deserved recognition as the Player of the Year, addressing the perceived irregularities in the previous awards. Meanwhile, Cristiano Ronaldo once again shone at the Globe Soccer Awards, claiming victories in three categories: “Top Scorer of the Year,” “Best Middle Eastern Player,” and “Best Player, as voted by Fans.”

Expressing gratitude to his supporters, Ronaldo acknowledged the significance of the fans’ role in football’s meaningful existence. He urged them to continue cheering for him, Al Nassr, and the Portuguese national team. Ronaldo’s achievements at the Globe Soccer Gala added another chapter to his illustrious career, showcasing his dedication to bringing joy to football enthusiasts worldwide.
