Man Utd mulls over Inter Milan’s swap transfer offer for Aaron Wan-Bissaka amid a contract stand-off, seeking a resolution

The Sun reports that Inter Milan is showing interest in signing right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka from Manchester United in the January transfer window. Notably, they have proposed including Denzel Dumfries in this deal.

The Dutch defender’s contract with the Serie A club will expire in June 2025, and he is considered one of the team’s outstanding players. However, both parties are currently stuck in contract renewal negotiations. The former Ajax star is seeking a weekly wage of £80,000, while Inter has only offered around £35,000 per week.

Therefore, Inter is willing to part ways with Dumfries and approach the Red Devils to reach a swap deal. They hope to secure the signature of Wan-Bissaka in return. Wan-Bissaka recently had his current contract with Man Utd extended for an additional 12 months. Coach Erik ten Hag considers the 26-year-old player an essential member of the Red Devils’ squad.

The former Crystal Palace star has featured in 17 matches across all competitions this season, providing two assists. However, Wan-Bissaka’s attacking contributions are notably limited, which is why he has not displaced Diogo Dalot on the substitute bench. On the other hand, Dumfries has scored two goals and provided four assists in 18 matches this season. Many consider him one of the best attacking right-backs in Italy since joining Inter.

Rio Ferdinand praised Dumfries before the 2022 World Cup quarter-final between the Netherlands and Argentina. Ferdinand stated that Dumfries possesses the essential qualities to become a star at Man United. The former Man United star remarked, “Dumfries is indispensable, much like Daley Blind, in Louis van Gaal’s tactical scheme. Dumfries is a player you look at and think he is powerful, capable of beating any opponent in one-on-one situations. He truly plays at a high level in his position.”

The right-back position at Man Utd has long been a significant concern. Given this opportunity, they should not miss out. A weekly wage of £80,000 is unlikely to pose a challenge for Old Trafford, and it’s time for Man Utd to trade Wan-Bissaka for a more quality player, thereby improving the attacking capabilities on the right flank.
