On Wednesday, star guard Dejounte Murray of the Atlanta Hawks added fuel to the fire of trade rumors by posting a mysteriоus Instagram story.

“Tell me when to go!” was the caption of Murray’s narrative, which depicted him sitting on the sidelines of a basketball court that was bright yellow. Since the Los Angeles Lakers are supposedly one of his main trade suitors, many fans naturally thought it was their court.

But Wednesday, the Hawks will face the Warriors on the road, so Murray will be playing on their court.

However, if you take a look at his Instagram story caption, it seems like the former All-Star is prepared to leave Atlanta.

How is the Dejounte Murray-Lakers trade front shaping up?

There are those who doubt Los Angeles can get a player of Dejounte Murray’s caliber through trade. Reportedly, the Lakers have been hesitant to give their top player, Austin Reaves, a contract that is 25 or less. Reaves is a shooting guard for the Atlanta Hawks.

The Hawks can still accept their draft choices and the player contracts of bench players like Rui Hachimura and D’Angelo Russell, though. They might also try to trade with a third team so that Atlanta receives more assets.

I don’t know if that would be sufficient to close the deal. Sam Amick of The Athletic claims, however, that the Murray to LA rumors are not completely without merit.

The idea “seems like it has got very real legs to it,” Amick put it. The bids have reportedly been back and forth, according to our Shams Charania. Despite rumors to the contrary, the Hawks will not be able to acquire Austin Reaves.

The Lakers, though, appear to have broken away from the Dejounte horde and, to a certain extent, have zeroed in on him as a potential asset.

Murray is reportedly one of “the two guys at the forefront” on Los Angeles’s trade wish list, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic.

The Los Angeles Lakers, who are currently 22-23 and figҺting for playoff survival in the Western Conference, could use Murray’s steady output as an all-around guard. With his combination of scoring, playmaking, and defense, he might be the Lakers’ third scoring option, after superstars LeBron James and Anthony Davis.

On a per-game basis, Murray has averaged 21.4 points, 5.0 rebounds, 5.0 assists, 1.3 steals, and 2.4 3-pointers while shooting 47.1% in 43 games.

Additionally, Murray has a player option for the 2027–28 season and is contractually bound until the conclusion of 2027. At the same time, he ought to be at the peak of his career.

Therefore, if the Lakers are able to acquire the 27-year-old, he should be a solid long-term investment.
