LeBron James’ 9-word defense mantra defined Stephen Curry’s excellence

During an HBO “The Shop” episode last year, LeBron James had nothing but kind things to say about Steph Curry. Curry is one of the guys James loves to play alongside, and he defined the greatness of the Golden State Warriors guard by the way NBA defenses match up against him.

During the second installment of the fifth season of “The Shop,” the superstar from the Los Angeles Lakers was questioned about players from the past or present that he would have enjoyed playing with. Before naming Penny Hardaway, Scottie Pippen, Curry, and his son Bronny, “The King”

“In today’s game, there’s some mπ‘œπ“‰π’½π‘’π“‡π’»π“Šπ’Έπ“€π‘’π“‡ in today’s game, but Steph Curry,” James said. “Steph Curry’s the one that I wanna play with for sure, in today’s game. … I love everything about that guy. Lethal.”

James also explained how opposing teams play defense against Curry:

“He get out his car. You better guard him.”

Curry and LeBron James were teammates in the 2021 and 2022 All-Star Games. Curry was chosen by James, the squad leader, to join him. In a 95.7 The Game episode from the previous year, the top player for the Golden State Warriors addressed James’ comments about him.

“Well, he got his wish,” Curry said. “He was the captain and he’s picked me for the last two All-Star Games, so I don’t know if that suffices, but I’m good right now.

“Whenever you get the interest or curiosity of what it would be like to play with arguably the MVP kinda caliber dude like he is, one of the greatest of all-time, cool. That’s amazing. We all can live in that fantasy world.”
