Against the Pelicans this evening, the Celtics will be without big players Kristaps Porzingis and Luke Kornet.
After spraining his ankle Thursday against the Miami Heat, Porzingis will be out for two games in a row. Kornet will not be able to play due to hamstring soreness; he had 11 points and 5 rebounds in Saturday’s game against the Clippers. The Celtics’ loss to the Clippers occurred in the second half, when the player sustained the ιnjury.
Despite Porzingis’s participation in shootaround, head coach Joe Mazzulla said in tonight’s pregame presser that both players are classified day-to-to.
“They both did their own version of a workout today, just to kind of see how they are feeling,” Mazzulla told NBC Sports Boston. “It will be just like going about your day.”
After initially being listed as questionable due to a neck issue, Al Horford will now be able to play. The Dominican is set to get plenty of playing time today against the Pelicans’ stellar frontcourt duo of Zion Williamson and Jonas Valenciunas, after making his second consecutive start.
Horford played 19 minutes in a 115-95 loss to the Clippers, during which he shot 0-5, including 0-4, from beyond the arc, and grabbed only two rebounds.
Center Against a Pelicans squad that pulls down 44.4 boards per game, Neemias Queta may get a lot of playing time today. Oshae Brisset and Lamar Stevens are also in the mix for tonight’s game.
In his rookie season with the Bruins, Queta is playing under a two-way contract. With the Bruins, he has scored 4.6 points per game while grabbing 4.4 boards in 12.4 minutes a game this season, which is a new career high.
The loss of Porzingis on Saturday night made things tough for the C’s. Tomorrow night, at 7:30 p.m. ET, the Celtics will take on the Indiana Pacers as part of their seven-game homestand.
