NBA Rumors: Warriors put Steph Curry in driver

As a result of their 19–24 season, the Golden State Warriors may decide to part ways with Steph Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green, who have been together for a long time. Recent trade reports have talked about the last two. It looks like Curry will have the final say on any possible deal, though.

Ramona Shelburne of ESPN says that the Warriors won’t part ways with their highly honored core without Curry’s permission.

Since 2011, Curry has played with Thompson, and since 2012, he has played with Green. The trio of experienced stars has been to six NBA Finals together and won four titles. Their most recent title was in 2022.Thompson was thought to be one of the best two-way wings in the NBA at his best, and Draymond was thought to be one of the best defenders in the league. But Thompson has had trouble this season being consistent on offense and has been nothing but a shell of himself on defense. At the same time, Green has been in and out of the Warriors’ lineup because of different bans, missing more games than he’s played. Many people thought that Golden State would not want to move Thompson and Green because they are important to fans and the team. But it looks like the team is at least willing to consider the idea if its star player agrees with it.What would you give for Klay Thompson or Draymond Green?Golden State might not be able to trade Klay Thompson or Draymond Green. That being said, the team might have to do it if they want to keep Steph Curry for longer. When it comes to defense, the Warriors are only ranked 24th after 43 games (117.9). Most people would agree, then, that they really need some defense upgrades. In the same way, many people have asked the team to add more young, athletic players to its core group.Thompson, 33, has a $43.2 million deal that is about to expire, and he wants another max contract. The Warriors have been hesitant to offer one so far.If they don’t want to keep the five-time All-Star, it might make sense to trade him for a younger player who is better at defense. Any team that buys him, though, would be taking a chance because his contract is up soon..However, Green, 33, is locked into a long-term deal and will be paid a fixed $100 million until the end of the 2026–27 season. So, the former Defensive Player of the Year is a safer player to trade because of his deal. But teams that play him might not want to take on the rest of his deal because of his past of acting strangely.Through 42 games, Thompson is averaging 17.6 points, 3.4 rebounds, 2.4 assists, 0.5 steals, 0.5 blocks and 3.4 3-pointers per game on 42.1% shooting.Meanwhile, through 19 games, Green is averaging 9.3 ppg, 5.9 rpg, 6.1 apg, 0.8 spg, 0.8 bpg and 1.1 3pg on 49.2% shooting.
