Stephen Curry’s tenth NBA All-Star Game selection ties a Warriors record

Even though Stephen Curry is the only Golden State Warriors player participating in this year’s NBA All-Star Game, he still achieved a new career high by being chosen.

When the reserve players were revealed on Thursday, Curry was selected an All-Star for the eleventh time, matching the Warriors franchise record held by Hall of Famer Paul Arizin for the most selections.

Curry has performed admirably, but the Warriors have had a difficult first half of the season, dropping several tight games en route to their current 20-24 record and 12th-place standings in the West. In addition to leading the NBA in 3-point field goals made at an incredible 40.9% clip, he is averaging 27.5 points per game.

Los Angeles Clippers’ Kawhi Leonard and Paul George were named as All-Star reserves on Thursday; two players each from the Minnesota Timberwolves and New York Knicks were also chosen.

The Timberwolves, who lead the Western Conference, will be represented at the game in Indianapolis on February 18 with Anthony Edwards and Karl-Anthony Towns. The other two West reserve players were Devin Booker of Phoenix and Anthony Davis of the Lakers.

First-time selection Jalen Brunson was accompanied by Knicks colleague Julius Randle, who went 14-2 in January. Along with Tyrese Maxey of Philadelphia and Paolo Banchero of Orlando, the East also received first-round selections from Donovan Mitchell of Cleveland and Jaylen Brown of Boston.

The team with significantly more experience is the West. Davis and George, who will be making a return trip to his original NBA home in Indiana, are also All-Stars for the ninth time, with Curry, who will play in his tenth All-Star Game. Leonard has been chosen six times.

Last week, the starting lineup was revealed. Giannis Antetokounmpo of Milwaukee, Damian Lillard of Portland, Joel Embiid of Philadelphia, Jayson Tatum of Boston, and Tyrese Haliburton of Indiana are the other players that will be in the East.

The starters for the West include guards Shai Gilgeous-Alexander of Oklahoma City and Luka Doncic of Dallas, as well as LeBron James of the Lakers, Nikola Jokic of Denver, and Kevin Durant of Phoenix in the frontcourt.

Each conference’s head coaches cast votes to choose the reserves. Regardless of position, they had to select two guards, two frontcourt players, and two additional players.

In a time when clubs are stacking them up every night, that is insufficient to attract a number of deserving players who are putting up significant numbers. Not included in the lineup for the game were Trae Young of Atlanta, who averages 27 points and 10.9 assists, or Domantas Sabonis and De’Aaron Fox of Sacramento, who together lead the NBA in rebounds.

Despite their hopes of having three All-Stars, neither Minnesota center Rudy Gobert nor Boston’s Derrick White were selected. The NBA-leading Celtics and Timberwolves were the other team.

For the fifth time in the history of the team, the Wolves had to make do with having two All-Stars, the first since Towns and Jimmy Butler in 2018.

Commissioner Adam Silver selects a player to replace any ωσυиdєd players who are unable to play. Randle is probably out for the duration of the All-Star break due to a dislocated right shoulder.
