The big game against the wounded squad sparked derision, and Jayson Tatum confronts fan reaction for saying, “Can only do that vs injured teams.”
On Sunday, superstar forward Jayson Tatum of the Boston Celtics annihilated the Memphis Grizzlies. Despite shooting just 54.5% from the field, the five-time All-Star finished with a career-best 34 points, eight boards, and seven assists. But he did it against a Memphis team that was severely lacking in key players, so the crowd was left wanting more.
Including all five starters and the majority of their valuable bench players, the Grizzlies were without a total of thirteen players for Sunday’s game. Therefore, the majority of Memphis’ roster consisted of players on 10-day or two-way contracts.
Among the eight players on the Grizzlies’ roster, Luke Kennard stood out as the most accomplished sharpshooter. The league-leading Celtics (38-12) cruised to a 40-point triumph (131-91) thanks to a spectacular performance by Tatum.
Here are a few more of the most popular fan reactions to Tatum’s dominant performance against the Grizzlies’ injured starters:

Joe Mazzulla on the Comeback of Jayson Tatum and the Warriors Against the Grizzlies
The Celtics, led by Jayson Tatum, were reeling from Thursday’s disheartening 114-105 home loss to a depleted Los Angeles Lakers squad heading into Sunday. Lakers superstars LeBron James and Anthony Davis did not participate in that game.
It appears the Celtics learnt their lesson about not taking lesser opponents for granted, because they recovered admirably against the Grizzlies, who were severely undermanned.
Celtics coach Joe Mazzulla spoke highly of his team’s discipline after the win.
“I felt we accomplished what was required of us,” Mazzulla stated. In my opinion, the game proceeded according to plan. Our performance, execution, and mentality were all top-notch, in my opinion.
The Celtics have won nine out of their previous twelve games, despite suffering some recent disappointments. As for the Eastern Conference, they are still in first place.
The lead is 5.0 games for Boston (38-12) over the second-place Milwaukee Bucks (33-17). The Celtics also have a three-game lead over every team in the Western Conference. This means they will still have a good chance of winning the NBA title in 2024.
When the Boston Celtics play the Atlanta Hawks (22-27) on Wednesday, the Bruins will be looking to keep their winning streak going. The Hawks have won four games in a row. But thus far this season, the Celtics have a perfect record when facing the Hawks.
