‘My Personality’ Defense: Jordan Walsh Sees Opportunity to Follow Marcus Smart’s Way

The Boston Celtics defeated the Memphis Grizzlies 131-91 on Sunday. Jordan Walsh got his first point of his NBA career during the contest.

Walsh played in 15 minutes of each of his three regular season games and finished with two points, two assists, and six rebounds. The youngster, who is just 19 years old, is tearing up the G-League for Boston’s affiliate, the Maine Celtics, with averages of 15.1 points and 6.6 rebounds per game. This was Marcus Smart’s second visit to TD Garden, and he returned with a 40-point thrashing. Walsh drew inspiration from Smart’s stint in Boston, according to Inside The Celtics.

As a Celtics fan, you’ll find inspiration in knowing that there’s more to the game than merely scoring 30 points per game. The game is all about the hustling and floor diving. It was the same with his Jumbotron clips; the majority of them had him squatting down and blocking shots. To have that be the most talked-about aspect of his time here, and for the fans to recognize and appreciate it, says a lot about the Celtics’ heritage and culture, in my opinion.

Smart was named to the NBA All-Defensive First Team three times and was named Defensive Player of the Year in 2022. Defense was “my personality” for Walsh, as it was for Smart.

7:30 p.m. EST is the tip-off time for Wednesday, February 7, Boston’s next game at TD Garden versus the Atlanta Hawks.
