Even though Paul George was traded to the Oklahoma City Thunder instead of the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2017, LeBron James and George may have been teammates that year. On PG’s podcast, Dahntay Jones, a former swingman for the Cavaliers, spilled the beans on how he was the one who first approached LeBron about bringing George to Cleveland.
“Alright, they want to add that (KD to the Warriors),” Dahntay Jones said, referring to Brannon and Kai in the room. Another wing is required. And I’m standing in the rear, asking, “PG?” “Yeah, but no one knows who he is.” ‘That’s my man,’ I feel. “Oh, PG would be ,” they sаy in the rear. “I could call him,” I responded, explaining that I am a free agent. “Hey, PG, what’s up?” I asked. In a good mood? “I think I’mma try,” he says. You haven’t watched the Finals, bro. “These Finals are the bee’s knees.” A couple of days later, PG asked, “Bro, what were you talking about?”
After that conversation, Dahntay said, it became known that Kyrie Irving wаnted out of the Cavaliers, and Cleveland was trying to move him.
Quote from Dahntay Jones: “PG was like, ‘I competed against him but I never really spoke to Bron.'” You guys would be ideal, I thought. Bron is an amazing guy, and you two are wonderful. Since you are one of those people, there is something you could learn from Bron, but hey, you’re making progress. Everything that I was selling, including shoes, is going to go up in price.
Yeah, he was selling like crаzy, Paul George said. I still see Bron when I look at him, despite all our fights.
Truthfully, Bron was also a fan of PG, Dahntay Jones said. They are unaware of it. ‘Bron, I’m coming over,’ it seemed like one day. “PG and I are going to the backyard for lunch.” We simply chopped it apart, and now you can observe two individuals pursuing the same path to greatness.
Consider this fantastic “what-if?” situation. In James’ last season with the Cavaliers, he knew he couldn’t defeat the Warriors in the Finals without Kyrie Irving. There was a chance that LeBron’s departure from the Lakers may have been postponed by a season or two if the Cavaliers had been able to recruit Paul George instead of Isaiah Thomas.
Even the Lakers were interested in George as a possible LeBron James sidekick, but he re-upped with the Oklahoma City Thunder and then joined the Los Angeles Clippers in 2019 after receiving one of the biggest trade deals in NBA history.
