At the trade deadline, the Boston Celtics may choose to sit on the bench
There won’t be a major splash for the Boston Celtics when the NBA trade deadline approaches. With an NBA-best 38-12 record, the Boston Celtics are five games ahead of the Cleveland Cavaliers for second place in the Eastern Conference.
Despite the abundance of Celtics-related rumors, Boston is expected to remain low-key during the trade deadline. Indeed, Celtics radio play-by-play commentator Sean Grande recently stated that, if Boston were to change anything, it would likely simply focus on defense while opposing teams strive to improve.
Deadline play won’t see the Boston Celtics getting too involved.
Grande discussed Boston’s trade deadline scenario on the most recent episode of “View From the Rafters” with hosts Abby Chin and Mark D’Amico.
The Celtics may have lost badly to the Clippers and the Lakers recently, but they still hold a comfortable lead in the conference figҺt for first place. Because they have the top starting five in the NBA, any alterations they make on Thursday will be modest at most.
Grande brought out the fact that Pascal Siakam and OG Anunoby, two prominent names, have already been traded, and neither of those teams is likely to be in the conference title Һunt. Grande predicted that the Celtics will adopt a defensive stance, keeping tabs on teams like the Cavaliers and the Milwaukee Bucks to prevent any major improvements from those teams.
No contender worth their salt, like the Bucks, will be ignoring Siakam and Anunoby this week, regardless of when the trade was made.
Just days before the season began, the Bucks traded Holiday to the Trail Blazers in a deal that brought him west, only for the Celtics to come swooping in and acquire him.
The sentiment that the Bucks’ fan base had when they had to trade Jrue Holiday for Damian Lillard is analogous to what Siakam and Anunoby’s decision not to be real contenders is like. We did the major relocation. Jrue is going where now? I’m sorry. The worst-case scenario for Bucks fans was a trip to Boston.
“As a Celtics fan, in this NBA offseason of record-setting offense, your main concern is to play defense at the trade deadline, preventing your rivals from making or not making major moves.”
