On Wednesday night, the Boston Celtics defeated the Atlanta Hawks 125-117 thanks to 31 points from Kristaps Porzingis and 12 points from Derrick White, who finished with 21 points overall.
With a win over the Hawks, the Celtics extended their home winning streak to seven games, and Jayson Tatum contributed 20 points, nine boards, and seven assists. Jaylen Brown scored fifteen points, while Al Horford contributed fourteen points, eight boards, and eight assists.
“When we´re playing like that and we´re moving it like that, I just think that puts us in a different dimension offensively,” stated Horford. “We have so many weapons out there that it becomes very tough to defend us.”‘
In a 17 for 49 shooting performance from outside the arc, including 9 for 16 in the fourth quarter to seal the deal over the obnoxious Hawks, Brown stood alone among Boston starters who failed to make a 3-pointer.
Among Atlanta’s scorers, Saddiq Bey had 25. For the Hawks, Trae Young poured in 20 points and dished out 10 assists, while Onyeka Okongwu and Jalen Johnson chipped in 19 points apiece. Atlanta finished with 49 rebounds, led by Johnson’s 15, and outrebounded Boston in terms of turnovers (only nine to Boston’s fourteen), but they were unable to overcome the Celtics’ 52.7% shooting from the field (49–93).
The coach of the Atlanta Hawks, Quin Snyder, warned his squad that they would need to shoot more often in order to beаt Boston.
Before losing to the Clippers 149-144 on Sunday night, Atlanta had won four in a row. Despite keeping the lead within seven points for the whole of the first three quarters, the Hawks were unable to withstand the Celtics’ fourth-quarter comeback.
Additionally, Atlanta had trouble converting from beyond the arc, going 4-for-17 in the second half.
The glances we got from all three of them seemed clean to me. “The ball simply didn’t work for us,” Snyder stated.
The Hawks came back to within five points in the last minute, but they couldn’t complete the comeback.
Joe Mazzulla, coach of the Boston Bruins, stated, “I thought the way we played the game tonight was kind of how I like our approach to be.” It was never anything that we wаnted to end. Never in a million years have we hoped things could be easy. In our minds, that’s our home, so we kept plugging away at it while playing the game.
In the opening four minutes of the fourth quarter, White made three 3-pointers, bringing his total for the session to five. He extended Boston’s lead to 109-98—the biggest of the game—with 8:01 remaining in the quarter, thanks to his third 3-pointer of the quarter. He scored again from outside the box, extending Boston’s lead to thirteen.
I got the impression that we did it when we truly needed to go our separate ways. The team made some crucial stops, and then Horford’s teammates scored some major goals.
While Brown made his comeback from Sunday’s game due to a back ιnjury, Jrue Holiday was unable to play for the Celtics due to a strained right elbow.
Due to a strained muscle in his left hip, Hawks center Clint Capela missed his second consecutive game.
