As a tribute to a detail on Bryant’s rookie season 1996–97 Lakers outfits, the Black Mamba jerseys have drop shadows on the jersey numbers and a snakeskin-like black design. Along with the Nos. 8 and 24 under the flap of each leg of the shorts, the unforms also have a “LA 24” on the belt.

Inspired by Bryant’s 20-year tenure with the purple and gold, the Black Mamba jerseys initially appeared during the 2017–18 season as the inaugural City Edition uniform for the franchise. The Lakers debuted the Black Mamba uniforms on January 26, 2018, and re-wore them in the 2020 NBA Playoffs, which resulted in the franchise’s 17th NBA Championship.
