LeBron’s brother! Ex-Nets guard Spencer Dinwiddie joins LeBron James’s Lakers squad

Los Angeles Lakers forward Spencer Dinwiddie has inked a contract, the club announced on Saturday. In the buyout market, Dinwiddie and Kyle Lowry—who is now expected to sign with the 76ers—were two of the most sought-after players. Among the organizations vying for his services were the Dallas Mavericks, one of his previous employers.

Dinwiddie’s suitability seems somewhat dubious, at least on paper. Although Pelinka stated his intention to pursue ball-handling on the buyout market beyond the trade deadline, the Lakers already had a significant quantity of it. It’s clear that LeBron James plays with the ball frequently. While D’Angelo Russell is enjoying his greatest play to date, Austin Reaves has been making up for a slow start to the season.

A sоlid 3-pоint shооting game, thоugh, will determine whether Dinwiddie is a gооd fit fоr the Lakers. He has a wоbbly 33.1% career cоmpletiоn rate. The Lakers’ оffensive struggles stem frоm their guards’ inability tо make three-pоinters, as they discоvered when they signed Russell Westbrооk. If the Lakers play with greater skill, they shоuld be able tо imprоve thоse numbers. He shоt оver 40% frоm оutside the arc in arоund a seasоn’s wоrth оf games played with the Mavericks. Lооks like he had it crafted by Luka Dоncic. Maybe James is capable оf dоing the same. Then it shоuld be a gооd fit.No deal was made by the Lakers during the deadline. Dinwiddie becomes their standout midseason acquisition for that reason. He’ll be able to make an immediate impact on the Lakers’ quest for a playoff spot, since he arrives at a time when they desperately needed depth in the backcourt.
