PLAYER RATINGS: Pochettino’s side leave it late to secure win

PLAYER RATINGS: Conor Gallagher rescued Chelsea with second-half double and Enzo Fernandez was assured… but two Blues stars struggle despite last-gasp win

Conor Gallagher and Enzo Fernandez gave Chelsea a 3-1 victory over Crystal Palace with goals in stoppage time.

Gallagher scored twice in Chelsea’s 2-1 victory over Palace, where he was on loan the previous season. The second goal came just after the hour mark.

In the fourth minute of extra time at Selhurst Park, Fernandez sealed the victory, leaving Palace just five points above the relegation zone and increasing the manager Roy Hodgson’s pressure.

Chelsea moved up to the Premier League’s tenth spot.

Kieran Gill of Mail Sport gave the players ratings.

Crystal Palace 1-3 Chelsea: Blues leave it late at Selhurst Park

CHELSEA (4-2-3-1)

Petrovic Djordje – 6

Though Chelsea’s defenders parted like the red sea at 1-1, they did brilliantly to deny Matheus Franca despite having no chance to stop the swerving 25-yard screaming striker.

Malo Gusto: 5.5

Although he didn’t have the best first half due to some joy from Crystal Palace, he did play a part by laying the cross for Conor Gallagher to finally equalize.

Five Axel Disasi

One of several offenders who mishandled the ball too much, Disasi found it difficult to build on his impressive performance against Aston Villa.

Silva Thiago – 6

Returned to the Chelsea starting lineup after being benched at Villa Park, however Levi Colwill took his place near the hour mark due to an injury.

Ben Chilwell (6.5)

Unlike Gusto on the other side, Jordan Ayew mostly missed Chilwell because the skipper had his flank covered.

Chelsea fought to win the points, and Enzo Fernandez’s third goal cemented the victory.

Caicedo Moises – 4.5

weak in confrontations, particularly in the build-up to Crystal Palace’s first goal, and failed to demonstrate the full potential of a midfield player worth £115 million. Need to perform better.

7.5 for Enzo Fernandez

Greater poise for Chelsea’s third goal as he was far more comfortable with the ball than his midfield partner and made use of his freedom to spring up in advanced positions.

Four Noni Madueke

Tyrick Mitchell stole the ball from him before Jefferson Lerma’s explosive play. His awful night was summed up by being hooked at halftime.

Conor Gallagher: 8

The hero of Chelsea. After making a deft move into the area to equalize early in the second half, the player finished well from 18 yards out to seal the victory.

Nicolas Jackson (5.5)

battled with inadequate service. In actuality, Raheem Sterling, who replaced him, had a greater influence as he assisted Chelsea in taking the lead in stoppage time.

Moises Caicedo, a midfielder for Chelsea, had terrible passing and was not very strong in challenges.

Cole Palmer, seven

Much more at ease playing from the wing than up top, where he may look lost, and two assists in stoppage time helped Chelsea win.

Alternatives:

Nkunku Christopher 45 – 7

Levi Colwill, 61–6

Sterling Raheem 79

Alfie Gilchrist (84).

6.5 Mauricio Pochettino, manager

Though he would take this, he would have wanted a more convincing victory over a struggling Crystal Palace. The trick was Chelsea’s late, late show.

When Palace’s opener was being built up, Noni Madueke lost control and was hooked at halftime.

Henderson 5.5, Munoz 5.5, Andersen 5.5, Richards 5.5, Mitchell 6; Wharton 6.5, Lerma 7; Ayew 5.5, Hughes 5.5 (Ahamada 79), Franca 5.5 (Edouard 84); Mateta 6.5 are the players in Crystal Palace (4-2-3-1).

Replacements (not utilized): Riedewald, Ozoh, Clyne, Tomkins, Schlupp, Johnstone, and Ward

Scorers: 30 Lerma

Supervisor: Roy Hodgson
