Soccer Star Luis Suarez Stuns Fans with Retirement Announcement, Following Deeply Moving Reunion with Lionel Messi

Just a few weeks after finalizing his transfer to the Major League Soccer team, Luis Suarez has announced that he will retire from professional soccer at Inter Miami.

Suarez, an international player for Uruguay, moved from Gremio during the offseason, but he hasn’t made his MLS debut yet. But in preseason play, he got back together with Lionel Messi, his old Barcelona teammate, before they shared a pitch for the new season.

Midway through the 2023 season, the David Beckham-owned team signed Messi and named Tata Martino, the former manager of Barcelona, as their manager. That combination, however, was unable to get them into the postseason, as they were unable to turn around their dismal start to the season under former head coach Phil Neville.

In 2024, Inter Miami will play with Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba as well. The team will open the season on February 21 against Real Salt Lake. However, Suarez’s relationship appears to be fleeting.

Suarez said on Uruguayan radio, “Yes, the family already knows and I cannot be more sincere” (via Diario AS). “This is the final step; the date is not yet set.

“I am prepared for this last challenge but it is also exhausting and I have to think about having a quality of life afterwards,” he stated. When Suarez decides to hang up his boots, he also seemed to rule out moving into the dugout.

Regarding the possibility of going to management, he remarked, “I don’t want to do it; it’s worse than being a player.” “The work hours necessitate additional time.”

Suarez was said to be signing a one-year contract with a two-year option before moving to Miami. However, that second season was not mentioned in the club’s release.

Regarding the agreement, president and co-owner Beckham stated, “We are thrilled to have a player of Luis’ caliber and enthusiasm for the game join our Club.” “We are excited to watch him take the field with both former teammates and young players from our Academy. He joins a squad that is inspiring the next generation.”

Suarez, who turned 37 in January, still has to score 11 goals for his club to reach 500 goals in his career. Approximately 198 of those were played in Barcelona uniforms, with 53 of those coming in the 2015–16 campaign.

He is among Uruguay’s most-capped players and was a member of the team that the 2022 World Cup eliminated in the group stages. He is anticipated to represent his nation in the 2024 Copa America, where they will compete in the group stage against Bolivia, the United States, and Panama.
