The UIM E1 World Championship, a thrilling electric boat racing league, has welcomed its newest team owner, former Chelsea and Ivory Coast footballer Didier Drogba, and his partner Gabrielle LeMaire. This addition marks the fourth team to join the league as it gears up for its inaugural season later this year.

The UIM E1 World Championship was created by Alejandro Agag, the founder of Formula E and Extreme E, along with Rodi Basso, a former director of Motorsport at McLaren with experience in Formula 1 engineering. The league has been making significant progress, transitioning from testing its all-electric RaceBird boats to establishing a growing collection of teams led by notable names.

The first team, Venice, was introduced in April 2022, followed by team Mexico owned by Formula 1 driver Sergio Perez. Earlier this year, tennis legend Rafael Nadal signed on as the next team owner, representing Spain in the championship series. As the league continues to expand and fill its ten initial team slots, it has now secured the participation of soccer icon Didier Drogba.

The UIM E1 World Championship promises exhilarating races on the water and showcases the potential of electric boat racing. With Drogba’s involvement, the league gains even more recognition and excitement from fans around the world. As the inaugural season approaches, anticipation grows for the thrilling competition that lies ahead.
