The record effort didn’t help, though, as Nikola Jokic scored 35 points to help the Nuggets come back and b𝔢at the Lakers 124–114. This was their sixth straight win.

He said, “I’m glad we’re playing well.” The things we want to do are being done. It doesn’t break down very often. That’s how I like to play the game right now.

James passed Kareem Abdul-Jabbar as the NBA’s all-time leading scorer a little over a year ago. He is also the league’s oldest current player, in his 21st season, and a four-time NBA champion and most valuable player.

“I am happy for him. “That was a huge accomplishment,” Lakers coach Darvin Ham said. “I wish we had won to finish it off.”

“But I admire him. Amazing, amazing run that is still going on today. And you should know that everyone in our school and organization is very happy and excited for him.

With 10:39 left in the second quarter, James made the historic basket by driving in a layup from the left side of the basket. This gave the Lakers a 37-32 lead.

After James made the shot, the crowd stood up and cheered. The ball James used to make the game-high basket was taken out of the game, but he made a layup with the new ball late in the half to help the Lakers take a 66-58 lead at halftime.

At 6:20 into the first quarter, James made his first basket of the game, a fast break layup that gave the Lakers a lead of 18–12. He then made a 3-pointer from the left corner 63 seconds later to make the score 23–14.

James said that when he hits the 40,000-point mark, it won’t be one of his biggest accomplishments, but it will be important.

“Nobσdy has done it.” “I think it’s pretty cool that I’m in this position at this point in my career,” James said.

“Is it the best thing I’ve ever done for work?” No. What does it mean? Yes, of course. It makes sense, right?

“It means a lot to me to reach big goals and accomplish great things in my career.” Of course.

“Of course there is a hierarchy of people who are better than others, but I’d be lying if I said it didn’t mean anything. It does, for sure.”
