Chelsea Contemplates £43m Summer Move for Athletic Bilbao Winger Nico Williams

Chelsea Football Club is reportedly considering a summer transfer move for Athletic Bilbao winger Nico Williams. The talented Spanish player has been enjoying a remarkable season in Spain, and with a release clause of approximately £43m in his contract, Athletic Bilbao is preparing for his potential departure.

As Chelsea strategizes its transfer plans, the club has expressed interest in signing a traditional No 9 striker. They have been monitoring the performances of Victor Osimhen from Napoli, Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig, and Viktor Gyökeres from Sporting Lisbon. However, Chelsea is also seriously contemplating a move for Nico Williams.

Acquiring a top-class striker will likely come at a considerable cost, and Chelsea’s transfer budget may depend on the funds generated from player sales. The club has faced difficulties in filling the striker position in recent attempts. Additionally, they will face competition from Paris Saint-Germain in pursuing Victor Osimhen.

While Williams’s current wages would make him one of Chelsea’s highest earners, his transfer fee is not expected to be excessively high. The versatile winger is capable of playing on either flank, although he primarily operates from the left wing. To prepare for the potential departure of Williams, Athletic Bilbao has already secured a deal to sign Álvaro Djaló from Braga in the upcoming summer transfer window.

During the current season, Chelsea has predominantly relied on Raheem Sterling and Mykhailo Mudryk on the left flank. While both players have displayed inconsistency, there have been no indications thus far that Chelsea is actively seeking to move them out. Raheem Sterling previously declined an opportunity to move to Saudi Arabia during the previous summer transfer window.
