Anthony Davis dominates Timberwolves with 27 points and 25 rebounds, leading Lakers to a 120-109 victory

Anthony Davis led the Los Angeles Lakers to a 120–109 win over the Minnesota Timberwolves on Sunday night. Davis scored 27 points, grabbed 25 rebounds, and stole seven balls, which is the most in his career.

Davis had one of the best games of his long and successful career. He scored nine points, set up five others, and stopped three shots. The nine-time All-Star dominated a Minnesota team that was missing its top two big men and four regulars because of injuries. He grabbed 21 rebounds in the second half alone and led a 21–4 comeback to start the fourth quarter, which helped the Lakers pull away for their 12th win in 17 games.

The Lakers be𝖆t another top team, this time by beating them. LeBron James scored 29 points, had nine assists, and eight rebounds, and Austin Reaves scored 19 points. The Lakers had already beaten Oklahoma City and Milwaukee during their six-game homestand. From 36 to 30, Los Angeles is six games ahead.500 for the first time this year.

Nineteen of Minnesota’s 46 3-point tries were made, and Naz Reid scored 25 points and made five threes in his first start of the season. Reid had his second straight great game after scoring 34 points against Cleveland last Friday, but the Wolves’ weak interior defense couldn’t stop Davis without Rudy Gobert or Karl-Anthony Towns.

A.J. Edwards added 25 points to help the Wolves, who have lost four out of six games. At the start of the fourth quarter, Minnesota missed nine shots in a row while Los Angeles pulled away.

James came back after missing nine games this season because of injury. D’Angelo Russell scored 44 points to help the Lakers be𝖆t Milwaukee 123–122 on Friday night. When Davis collided with Giannis Antetokounmpo during that game, he hurt his left shoulder. He was able to play again, though.

Edwards played even though he hurt his ankle, but Gobert didn’t play because his right leg was sor𝔒. Gobert missed his third game of the season and was fined $100,000 by the NBA early Sunday for a series of actions Friday that called into question the ethics of the NBA’s officials.

Since he was told he had a torn meniscus in his left knee, Towns has missed three straight games for Minnesota. After surgery, the big man will probably not be able to play until the playoffs.

Another player who didn’t play was Kyle Anderson, who had p𝖆in in his right shoulder. Monte Morris also didn’t play because his left hamstring was already hurt.

The Lakers’ Cam Reddish can’t play because his right ankle is hurt. It was the second extra game he hadn’t played in since late February, when he came back from being hurt for a month.
