As a result, Ham relied largely on Schröder.After Schröder’s free agency, Russell admitted he was hesitant to play for the Lakers again this year.

Russell said ESPN that the team was prepared to “do whatever it took” to keep him on staff. “And I thought, ‘Are you going to give me a break, though?'”

The Love/Hate Relationship Between D’Angelo Russell and Darvin HamAccording to the ESPN article, the Lakers starting point guard and their coach had a tense relationship that culminated in a January altercation in the film room.

Russell has gone 26 games without a loss since then, and in that time he has averaged 22.5 points, 6.4 assists, and 3.3 boards.

Russell insisted he had prepared well and swore he would not sit out another playoff game.

“I’m prepared,” Russell informed ESPN.  “I prepared for this exam.”
