With 6:29 remaining in the second quarter, Hauser tied his previous career high with his sixth 3-pointer, which he then eclipsed three minutes later, thanks to assists from Tatum as well.
Hauser opened the second half with three more 3-pointers, the final of which increased Boston’s lead to 92-56 with 9:27 left in the third.
His teammates urged him to shoot for the all-time NBA record of 14 made threes, set by Klay Thompson, as well as the record held by the Celtics, Marcus Smart, with 11 made threes.
“I know Klay did it, and it was pretty impressive,” said Al Horford, a forward with the Celtics. “We shooters are aware of those records. We support Sam and are well aware of it.”
