The Lakers’ 128-124 double-overtime victory over the Bucks, which was the first game of their road trip, was the result of a spectacular rally that saw the team overcome a 19-point hole without LeBron James.
Once again, Anthony Davis was unstoppable, this time for 34 points, 23 rebounds, 4 blocks, 2 steals, and 2 assists. The second half was when D’Angelo Russell really started to shine, as he finished the game with 29 points, 12 assists, and 7 rebounds on 5-12 shooting from beyond the arc.
In addition to his 29 points, 14 rebounds, and 10 assists, Austin Reaves recorded a triple-double in double overtime by making even greater free throws in overtime and the fourth quarter. In addition to his career-high 16 points, Rui Hachimura set a new mark for boards with 14 of his own. He also had a few clutch baskets.
Spencer Dinwiddie started in LeBrоn James’s stead, and Russell came back fоllоwing a оne-game absence оwing tо a nоn-CоVID sickness. Davis, Rui, and Austin regulars were alsо there.
Even though this is a winning team that doesn’t include LeBron, they got off to a terrible start on Tuesday. Before the first timeout, Los Angeles was down 10–2, and they were soon down 12–2.
The team’s inability to establish a rhythm or cohesiveness meant that the first frame was a washout. In the first quarter, they were outscored by 19 points on 28% shooting from the field. The Lakers trailed 32-16 at halftime, but Anthony Davis’s late slam helped narrow the gap.
As soon as the second quarter began, Rui scored twice, indicating that the Lakers’ offense was starting to come alive. At one point in the middle of the third quarter, with Davis’s assistance, the lead shrank to single digits.
The Lakers’ first-half wоes were mоstly due tо Giannis Antetоkоunmpо, whо scоred 17 pоints and grabbed 11 rebоunds tо help the Milwaukee Bucks reclaim a 17-6 lead that they had earlier in the game. In sharp cоntrast tо their previоus game, in which they scоred 150 pоints, the Lakers’ 48 pоints in the first half were their lоwest tоtal this seasоn.
At the beginning of the third, Los Angeles came out firing, thanks in large part to D’Lo’s strong shooting from deep. Once again, the Lakers were able to pull within single digits thanks to the new franchise leader in made threes this season. In the final moments of the third quarter, the Bucks took advantage of the Lakers’ carelessness by forcing them to commit repeated turnovers. Bobby Portis and Jae Crowder scored key 3-pointers to seal the deal. The margin for Milwaukee was 14 points again when Giannis scored at the buzzer.
The Lakers needed to mount an early fourth-quarter surge if they hoped to have a shot at a comeback with 12 minutes remaining and double-digit deficit.
Unfortunately, that didn’t transpire since Milwaukee scored the opening four points of the quarter with Davis sitting on the bench, enjoying his typical siesta. When Davis got back on the court at 9:52, the Lakers still had time for one more comeback. In order to pull within five points and force Doc Rivers to call a timeout, they went on a 16-2 run.
Even when Khris Middleton scored a game-winning 3-pointer to put Milwaukee ahead again and reduce the gap to ten points, the Lakers refused to go away. Once Prince made two free throws, the score was tied following 3-pointers by Davis and Reaves.
In a nail-biter at the rim, Giannis missed the mark, and Reaves missed a 3-pointer, sending the game to overtime.
Even in overtime, Davis was able to make one of his three 3-point attempts. With 2:17 remaining in the overtime round, the Lakers took the lead for the first time on a basket by Dinwiddie.

With 1:17 remaining, the game was once again tied as Dinwiddie struck a pair. After taking the lead on a 3-pointer by Reaves, the Lakers were able to stay ahead because to Giannis’s missed free throws and Austin’s grab of the rebound.
Los Angeles was down to a two-point lead following free throws by Reaves and a 3-pointer by Malik Beasley. The Lakers were able to properly inbound the ball, and with Davis’s game-winning layup, they were able to seal the victory.
Important Points to RememberAmusing, isn’t it?
What a comeback and resiliency win for the Los Angeles Lakers. Despite Bron’s absence and Davis’s apparent labor, the team persisted and earned a monumental road victory.
Because the Lakers play the Memphis Grizzlies again in less than twenty-four hours, the party won’t last long. Having Bron and Davis both be available to play would be perfect.
