Green makes the case for rookie Victor Wembanyama to win DPOY.
Forward Draymond Green of the Golden State Warriors had a lot of good things to say about Victor Wembanyama, a rookie for the San Antonio Spurs.
Victor Wembanyama, a rookie for the San Antonio Spurs, has already proven himself to be one of the best young players in the NBA. The Spurs center, who is 7 feet 4 inches tall, was just named Rookie of the Month for the third month in a row. He is a clear favorite to win Rookie of the Year.
One other superstar, though, says that Wembanyama should win more than just ROY this summer. On a recent episode of his podcast, Draymond Green, a forward for the Golden State Warriors, made the case that Wembanyama should also be named Defensive Player of the Year. This was different from an earlier point he made that the rookie shouldn’t get the award.
“I know I said earlier that Wemby shouldn’t be Defensive Player of the Year. I told a lie. He should win Defensive Player of the Year. Because he is so great at defense.” — Dwayne Green
Recently, Green saw Wembanyama’s defensive skills for himself when the Warriors b𝔢at the Spurs 117–113 in San Antonio on Sunday. Green made sure that Wembanyama signed a shirt for his young son after the game.
Green praised the young center for more than just how nice he was after the game.
“Wemby is without a doubt the Defensive Player of the Year.” As a defensive player, he changes the game in a bad way, whether the ball is in play or not. It’s a problem when guys start driving to the hole, but they turn around and go the other way. They might have a lay-up, but they might not. In a way, that’s a blocked shot, and no one will take responsibility for it. — Dwayne Green
