The Lakers’ sixth season in purple and gold has come to an end, and LeBron James has shared some thoughts about his future in Los Angeles and his plans to play with his son Bronny.
Following his free agent signing with Los Angeles in 2018, James has gone through a number of highs and lows. He has left his mark on Lakers history during the tumultuous six years, having guided the team to an NBA title in 2020 and an In-Season Tournament triumph in 2023.Now that the Lakers are out of the running for the NBA title in 2024, attention is turning to James’ short-term future.
James is eligible to sign a player option for the 2024–2025 season after agreeing to a two-year contract extension in 2022. Prior to his 22nd NBA season, he will become an unrestricted free agency if he rejects that choice.
While James’ stint as a Laker isn’t officially over, his decision to enter free agency does allow him to move teams for the fourth time in his NBA career.
Will James end his Lakers career? These are the things we know about his future based on his prior statements. Will the Lakers lose LeBron James?James made his most conclusive remarks regarding his future with the Lakers during the Indianapolis 2024 NBA All-Star Weekend. In response to a question concerning retirement and the last few years of his career, he elaborated on his vision.
“Lakers are who I am. For the past six years, I’ve been a very happy Laker, and hopefully it continues,” James said to the press.
However, I’m not sure how long it will last or what outfit I’ll be wearing. We’ll see, but hopefully it’s with the Lakers—a fantastic team with so many greats. It’s coming, but I have no idea how it will end.”
Even though James expressed his satisfaction with the Lakers, he is still free to exercise his right to free agency if he so chooses. The chance to play in the NBA with his eldest son, Bronny, is one of the things that influenced his decision.
