However, an NBA fan noted on Twitter that the Lakers had the opportunity to select him in the 2017 NBA Draft, but they decided against it in favor of Lonzo Ball, which gave the Celtics the advantage to select Tatum.

In the 2017 NBA Draft, the Lakers notably selected Lonzo Ball with the second overall pick. Magic Johnson, a Lakers executive at the time, hailed Ball as the team’s future star and predicted that one day his jersey would be hαnging in the rafters. That was high regard for Ball, given the history Magic Johnson left behind as the Lakers’ point guard. However, Ball would be traded after just two years.
