Turkey turnout
Well-supported Turkey got the Euros off to a fun start with a win over Georgia in the first game.
Arda Guler, a playmaker for Real Madrid, got a great goal, and Mert Muldur and Kerem Akturkoglu also scored to make the Turkish fans very happy.
After Georges Mikautadze hit the wall and dropped Muldur’s beautifully hit opener, Georgia looked dangerous.
Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, a star player for Napoli, wasn’t at his best, but his team still played well enough to give themselves hope for the next two games, against the Czech Republic and then Portugal.
“It was a game that belonged in the Euros, and we had great support even when things got tough.” “This win is also for them and the party they’ll have,” Vincenzo Montella, the coach of Turkey, told reporters.
“It’s my 50th birthday today so it was perfect day of sport and the victory was the best present that the boys could have given me.”
Germany is back in action on Wednesday, when they play Hungary in Stuttgart in the second round of group games.
Scots play Switzerland in the other Group A match, and they are looking for their first win at a major event since 1996. In Group B, Croatia plays Albania.
