Toni Kross in Germany’s 2-0 victory against Hungary in the European Championship

Germany bҽat adventurous Hungary 2-0 on Wednesday to qualify for the Euro 2024 last 16 thanks to Jamal Musiala’s contentious goal and Ilkay Gündogan’s goal.

Croatia’s tie with Albania and Group C’s scenario imply at least two third-placed teams cannot match Germany’s six points.

Along with the top two, the four best third-placed teams from six groups advanced to the knockout stages.

Julian Nagelsmann kept the same starting lineup after Germany’s 5-1 win against Scotland lit up the tournament.

Hungary, which lost 3-1 to Switzerland in the first round, started well but Germany scored midway through the first half.

Assisted by captain Gündogan, Musiala scored his second tournament goal.

Hungary appealed for a box foul by Gündogan before he pulled it back, but a video review permitted the goal.

Gündogan slotted in Maximilian Mittelstädt’s low cross on 67 minutes to end Hungary’s thrҽat.

Manuel Neuer tied Gianluigi Buffon for most Euro appearances with 17 appearances.

A Marco Rossi goal was also disallowed for offside.
