Even his teammates could hardly believe what the 25-year-old star showed.
England had a disappointing match against Denmark and Declan Rice was no exception.
The Arsenal star had his second consecutive match in the Three Lions starting lineup. Unlike his role at the club, Rice takes on more of the task of covering the defense, creating safety so that Trent Alexander-Arnold can develop his creativity.
However, in the last match, Rice personally did not play really well.
Rice’s performance was somewhat distracted. He only won once in four aerial duels, along with losing control 10 times.
At the beginning of the second half, Rice made an incomprehensible tackle that forced England to take a corner kick.
The Arsenal star continued to make fans’ hearts flutter with his return pass that did not really match Marc Guehi’s momentum, thereby opening up a counter-attack situation for Denmark. Luckily, Guehi was able to retreat to cover and prevent the goal.
The performance from the former West Ham star no longer brings peace of mind to the Three Lions’ midfield.
Rice will have to find his old form soon, or Gareth Southgate needs to make more suitable choices when the bench still has options like Adam Wharton or Kobbie Mainoo.
