Tuesday night saw Jack Grealish make his comeback to the training field as England faced Slovenia in their last group stage match.
The Manchester City player was among several tournament mainstays who Gareth Southgate chose not to bring to Germany, a decision that was met with some reluctance from various quarters.
Harry Maguire and James Maddison were among the many well-known England players cut for fitness and form-related reasons, and Southgate acknowledged that it had not been an easy choice.
The head coach of England referred to the talks he had with the players to let them know they would be excluded as “one of the most difficult parts of the job” and described the players’ situation as “devastating.”
Grealish left England quickly, enjoying a little vacation to Sardinia, but he has since made the decision to return to the field in an attempt to find his playing form for the upcoming campaign.
Through his Instagram Stories on Tuesday, the 28-year-old posted a video of himself working out at the Etihad Campus. In the video, he is doing individual exercises with Jamie Reynolds, a Nike trainer.
Grealish and the teacher had previously collaborated on one-on-one training sessions, and Reynolds worked with the player on a private program in Dubai prior to the most recent campaign.
‘(Jack Grealish) back in the office,’ the trainer captioned the video after reposting the session on his own profile.

Jack Grealish was seen working on the field in a different video that Reynolds posted, along with the description, “(Jack Grealish) working (runner emoji, football emoji).”
In order to be ready for preseason action with Pep Guardiola’s team, Grealish also managed to squeeze in a workout at Juventus’ academy while in Italy before leaving for Manchester.
On July 23, Manchester City will play Celtic to begin their tour of the United States.
Grealish was being put through his paces, but as England stammered to a 0-0 draw in Cologne, Southgate could have needed a bit of the player’s energy and inventiveness.
The Three Lions’ group-top finish will come as little consolation ahead of their Round of 16 match; furious criticism of the head coach will probably only mount after the team was unable to break the draw against the group’s underdogs.
