With a thɾilling 2-0 victory over Portugal, Georgia produced the biggest upset of Euro 2024 thus far and secured its spot in the round of 16.

Following a terrible mistake by the Portuguese defense, Georges Mikautadze scored Georgia’s second goal from the penalty spot in the second half. Khvicha Kvaratskhelia gave Georgia the lead within two minutes.

Georgia is playing in its first big tournament as a nation, and its boldness and high-intensity game have won over supporters at Euro 2024.

Both were on full display in Georgia’s well-earned triumph on Wednesday, as they eventually prevailed with relative ease and advanced as one of the top four third-place teams in the competition to the knockout stages.

Meanwhile, Turkey finishes second in Group F behind Portugal after defeating the Czech Republic 2-1.

Portugal was aiming to become just the second team after Spain to win all three group games at Euro 2024. Portugal had already advanced to the knockout stages with victories against Turkey and the Czech Republic.

Meanwhile, Georgia knew they would need to win in order to advance to the round of 16.

Georgia, the bottom-seeded squad at Euro 2024, has shown that it is not to be taken lightly in its matches thus far, drawing with the Czech Republic and losing by a tight margin to Turkey.
